Prašan is a free, non-commercial app that reads weather forecasts to estimate when and where proper powder will fall in Slovakia, and suggests where on the mountain to ski based on current conditions.
For each resort we combine four weather models (ALADIN, ICON-EU, ECMWF and GFS) at the base, middle and top of the slopes. The 0–10 powder score weighs overnight snow (16:00 – 09:00), how cold it falls, rain, wind gusts on exposed lifts and morning sun.
A forecast is an estimate, not a promise. For the next 1–3 days temperature and whether it will snow at all are fairly reliable; exact centimetres are the weakest part, because models smooth out the mountains and tend to underestimate mountain snowfall. That is why we only show the next 7 days, with a confidence line under the bars.
We checked the forecast against SHMÚ measurements from Chopok and Lomnický štít for winter 2025/26: one day ahead the models showed only about 40–50 % of the new snow measured. So we multiply forecast snowfall by 1.5 — cautiously, so we don't announce powder that never comes.
The “Where to ski today” tips are experienced skiers' rules of thumb (fog → trees, corn → follow the sun, wind → sheltered runs) applied to current model conditions. Treat them as advice, not instructions.

Winter 2025/26 (checked against SHMÚ measurements): one day ahead the models showed only 40–50 % of the new snow measured, and caught 2 of 8 days with 10+ cm on Chopok and 2 of 13 on Lomnický štít. Since then we multiply forecast snowfall by 1.5 and compare the forecast with SHMÚ measurements every day:
Collecting data since Fri 16 Oct 2026. Results appear once a stored forecast meets its measurement.
Until SHMÚ publishes its official measurements (about 2 months later), we use an estimate from the automatic snow-depth sensor (the rise in depth), which slightly underestimates new snow. It is replaced by the official figures later.
